Rose sat at an old, dusty piano that was a dying breed. Though it was very beautiful in its own way, it's gloy days had passed and now sat as a practice piano in the back. Rose had borrowed some music from the Music Archive and was looking through it before she began. Finally she sat it on the piano and placed her hands in the right spots. She bit her lip and then began to count '1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4' to keep herself on beat as she played the song at a moderate pace.

Erik watched from the rafters, crouched on a beam, his dark cloak hanging beneath him. He shook his head slowly. The girl was a much better singer than pianist - much better. And she was improving by leaps and bounds.
What was her name - Joslyn? Oh, that was it - Roslin. She went by Rose. He peered down out of the gloom, listening to the music.

Rose had ended the song, just as Erik sighed. A chill ran through her spine as she suddenly notice a trapdoor only a few yards ahead. The older girls had also told stories of the Phantom dwelling under those trapdoors. She would keep her gaurd...just in case. Rose then let her fingers trace the piano keys, almost as if playing, but there was on sound coming from them. Though in her mind she was going over the keys to a song she had memorized.

Erik watched her intently.
Yes, she definitely had potential. He watched her fingers drift over the keys, and he smiled to himself, almost frightened to feel his lips crack as htough rusted. How long had it been since he had smiled?

Rose began to go through the music again to find more to play and more to sing. As she went through she find one song that she had never heard, though it was dated to have been written resently. She sat it on the piano stand. Looking over it quickly, she noticed some blotches of ink on the paper. This must not have been the finally draft. She began to play it, with her right hand only and slow. As she played she sang along with the melody, which was easy to follow. This is how she had always learned songs, slowly but surely. She suddenly hit a note, it sounded wrong, flat, something. She looked up at the music. The note was correct, but how could it be?

Erik had the strange urge to sing out the note for her, he knew the song. After all, he had written it.
((I have no idea what song you're talking about, just htought I'd add that. x) If that's okay.))
However, he held himself back. She would definitely be getting a good part in his new Opera.

Frustrated with, what she thought, the stupidity of the composer. Let her fingers fall on the piano, making a load noise that was no more than a noise. She stood quickly and walked over to the side to stare a prop vase in frustration. Then Madame Giry walked in. The woman was about to ask Rose if she had seen Meg, but her eyes saw Erik, she had a intuition of knowing when he was around and where he was. Her eyes drew back down to the girl. "Yes, Madame Giry?" Rose inquired. "Oh, nothing my dear, just seeing if my daughter was here. I'd best go," she said, knowing she shouldn't draw Rose away if he was watching and she left quickly, leaving Rose confused.

Erik watched Madame Giry go silently, and laughed deep in his throat, softly, at the girl's frustration with his music. She obviously hadn't seen the key change a few measure ago...ah, but who would? It was in the midst of a complicated passage. His opinion on her piano skills was rapidly increasing, for this was a difficult piece.

Rose jumped slightly as she heard a deep, but almost empty laugh echo through the room. She looked around. No one was there. She looked up. She was no one there. She took two deep breaths through her nose, calming herself and making excuses. She saw the trapdoor again. But the possibility of the Phantom being close by eluded her and she sat down once more. She started at the top of the page. And played through until she got to the part with the wrong note. She stopped and studied the page for key changes she might have missed, for it was the only explaination. There. She found it. A change to D Minor. She sighed and placed her hands gently on the piano, playing from the key change. Suddenly, it seems as though no note was wrong. She smile a bit, though embarrassed to herself that she missed such an important notation.

Erik smiled to himself from the shadows of the rafters as she found the key change.
"Good girl," He whispered to himself, so quietly he almost couldn't hear it himself. Then he remembered his Opera, and climbed, spider-like, to the back where he could get to his dungeon and continue writing the score.
