Alyna sat with balance on the rafter above the king-sized bed. This time she kept her shoes on, since she handn't dusted the place off in a while and wanted to keep her feet clean. Erik's mask lay upside-down in front of her. Her brow furrowed with concentration, trying to come to some unknown conclusion. After a few minutes, she leaned back on the wooden board (narrowly missing a spider web) and sighed deeply. Dust flew in all directions, making her lose her balance. She knocked the mask onto the ground and landed as gracefully as she could on the floor (by landing loudly and rolling over until the wall), then stood up as she heard someone entering. She quickly put the mask into a nighttable drawer.

Juliana knocked on the door at that very moment. She was a bit worried by the sound of a crash against the wall. "Hey, Alyna, are you in there?" she asked, before knocking again. A sound came from the wall again, but it didn't sound much like Alyna. Juliana waited. She had some great news. In her hand was a note - from her parents. She knocked a third time before giving up, and sat down, her back against the wall. And while she waited, she re-read the note, to make sure she wasn't mistaken. But the words were as she thought, and her parents would come to the performance - her parents would see her, they would finally see her again after three and a half years!

Alyna let her shoulders relax- it was just the chorus girl, Juliana. She dusted her clothes off and fingered the dead flower on the night table. "Yeah, come in. Just... exercising. What news is so big that you came up here to find me?"

"You will never guess what!" Juliana said. She was so excited to tell Alyna about the big news, she almost jumped with the note. "My parents are coming! They have never seen any of our performances - never had the time - but they're coming! And they said that if it goes well, I can go home for the day with them!" She was now gasping for air. She just couldn't believe it; this was like a dream. But then why was she so scared?

Alyna was always surprised by this sort of thing. Having her parents watch her perform was like torture for her. "That's great. Is your sister coming?"

"Of course! I've missed them all so much. But I'm also worried. I mean, you know how they are kind of picky with operas. They never saw our performances before, and I'm worried that they won't like it. I could just imagine what they would say - 'It's a good thing we didn't come to the last one. It's not you, Juliana, it was that horrible play. How long could they talk about her royal highness, the pain.' Ugh..." Juliana felt something like a knot in her stomach, and it was tightening as she went on. This was so exciting - yet so terrifying.

"I'm sure they'll enjoy it. The Opera Populaire is world-reknowned for its scenery and ballet, but especially for its singers. Only the elite. Juliana, you can sing 'the queen' for four days straight and the audience would still applaud at the end. Not that I know anything about singing." Alyna touched her own stomach as the other girl groaned, remembering the scar left there from a shattered flower pot.

"I guess you're right. I mean, maybe hearing the words 'the queen, our queen' repeating wouldn'tbe the best thing to hear, but I guess there is more. And I'm sure you will do great, too. You have a pretty important part, too. Hey -" Juliana said as she saw something white sticking out from a drawr. "what's that?" It didn't look like anything she had ever seen - except... nah, it couldn't be... could it?

"My journal." It had been a while since Alyna had spoken to Chante. She had gotten over that lying guilt. She pushed the mask farther into the drawer and shut it. "I'd rather nobody read it. I'm sure you understand."

"Yeah. If anyone read my journal I'd try spearing them... anyway, want to practice later? I think I've gotten my parts right, but just in case..." Juliana didn't want anything to go wrong. She wished to have everything... perfect. She vividly remembered their last performence, where everything went wrong. She wanted to have it better now. She knew that she'd be blamed for even a fall, when she was far away. Maybe she was just pushing herself to hard, though.

"We could practice now, if you wanted to. I have the smallest dance role this time, after I caused Madame Giry so much stress as prima ballerina during Le Soufre Cosigne. Only two spins, and not a single leap. It's torture."

"Ah, well. Let's go, at least you don't repeat 'our queen' through the whole song as background - my jaws are killing me!" Juliana stopped dead in her tracks. In her path were three of the people she least expected - her mother, father and sister. "And where are you two going?" said her mother kindly. "We wanted to surprise Juliana!" "Oh, uh, we were just going to practice -" "I'm sorry," said her dad, "but you will have to stay put. We came to spend time with you, and that's what we're going to do."
((Sorry I did the parents part, they are more of background people than charactors in this scene))

((Okeedokee.)) "Have a good time, Juliana," Alyna said, her body itching to be back on the rafters.

"Thanks," said Juliana, and she forced a weak smile. Her parents were great, but they were still parents - still embaressing.
Later that day, Juliana went with her parents to a fancy Itallian resteraunt called Creante Le Momorne (she had no idea what it meant). And naturally, it was highly expensive. "So, Juliana," said her mother. "Some of my friends like to call me 'Scin', but okay..." said Juliana. She much liked the name Juliana, but she liked Scin as well. "Right, ummm, Scin. So, tell me about boys..." Juliana's face reddened. She secretly liked Raoul, but she wouldn't tell her parents that. "Mo-om," she whined. "Do you have to do this? No, I don't like any boys..." "Oh, look! There are those delicious pies you like - what are they called, snug pies?" said her father. Juliana sunk in her seat from embarresment. If only Alyna were here, she'd be able to do something... Suddenly, an idea came to her. "I'll be right back," she said. She rushed into the bathroom and grabbded her cell phone. She quickly dialed Alyna's number. "Hey, Alyna, this is Juliana. My parents are doing the - the parent thing. Ugh... they are so embarresing!" And just then, her mother came in. "Oh, honey, you rushed off so fast! And I wanted to see if you were okay..." "Oh," said Juliana, "I just wanted to tell Alyna how great it was to be at this place with you guys!" she forced another smile. "Okay. I will tell the truth," she added when her mother looked at her in a "yeah right" way. "You guys are a little embarressing sometimes. So... well, I wanted to talk to Alyna to calm down..." "Come now," her mother said softly. "Ju - uhh, Scin - I was a kid once, too. I know what it's like to have parents. They could be annoying, but we just want to know you better. We're always away, and never could see you, and wanted to know..." Juliana did not listen to the rest. So, they do care... they didn't want to be away. They had to! She felt appreciation to her parents now. Maybe this isn't so bad, after all.
Juliana (or, Scin) had come back in time for a surprise rehersal. Everyone was doing wonderfuly. Did they forget her? Oh well. She sat watching (you cannot be late; if you are, you can't be in the rehersal) and learning the new words and movements by looking and listening to them (but hers were just 'the queen, our queen' either way). She waved a hand to Alyna, but she didn't look as though she had noticed. Everyone was doing perfectly - perfectly, without her. "The queen, our queen", she sang softly under her breath.
