Solange stood in stunned silence. She could not believe that she had been given a part above Carlotta - the woman had always seemed to be the person to beat. Solange felt suddenly empty, even though she was delirious with happiness.

"Yeah, well. I don't really like being put on the spot sometimes," Rose replied simply. She didn't sound sad or depressed, but perfectly fine. She was fine. She was getting used to these things.

"It's strange, though, that he had you announce it all and didn't give you any leading parts."

"I'm not the best, why should I have a leading part? Kristine's and Solange's skills clearly exceed my own. I think he would want the opera to be the best it can be, not just simply play favorites for fun. I don't think he works like that," Rose replied, again rather simply and frank.

Chante smiled, feeling better, and took Yves' hand. She stood, feeling absurd with what seemed to her to be an extravagant gown, when really it was nothing more than the others at the Masquerade wore.
Perhaps she would actually like being part of the Opera Populaire.

Alyna was watching Chante and Yves, but paid no attention to them. "I don't agree with you," Alyna replied. "He has a twisted mind. He doesn't care what happens to the Opera Populaire- so long as he gets his pay and dominion."

"So, I assume you are excited about this opera. Is it your first?" Yves asked Chante as he twirled her across the floor.

"I agree he is twisted. But I think he cares more about the Operas themselves than you think," Rose replied, but it didn't sound like an argument, more like a fact.

Alyna shrugged, not wanting to pursue the topic further. "I wonder how Carlotta feels right now," she said, and then peered around the room trying to find said diva.

"She's drunk. She probably is only feeling dizzy," Rose said as she saw Carlotta by the wine table.

Alyna laughed. "I wonder how Jeanne's feeling, standing next to Carlotta."

Jeanne figeded and tried to ignore Carlotta as she kept on talking and talking. Jeanne tried to catch the eye of someone so she would not rudely leave her. When she saw Alyna looking at her, Jeanne took the oppertunity to bolt.
"Hi," she said, slightly out of breath.

Alyna had to use all her grace not to double over laughing ((which is exactly how I felt all day, my school gave out pure sugar snacks)). 'Hi, Jeanne," she said, the sides of her mouth twitching.

Chante smiled. "Of course! I can't wait, it's going to be so wonderful!" Feeling somewhat breathless, she let Yves lead - she didn't really know how to dance, but he seemed to, very well.

"You danse beautifully," said Yves as the song ended. He took Chante's arm and led her over to two chairs. "Would you care to sit down? I will go get some refreshments."
