((What Marielle meant was she looks like too much of a drunkard to be a lead singer))
Marielle smiled. "Maman is going to be so proud of you, Philly," she said teasingly.
Philippe rolled his eyes. "Stop it, Mari," he warned.

Jeanne left to get Carlotta another drink. At least she wasn't complaining.

Rose looked around cautiously. She didn't see him anywhere. Perhaps it was safe. Perhaps everything wasn't really that bad. She made her way back to the group and curtsied to the two gentlement and Marielle. She didn't bother to introduce herself. She looked at Carlotta for a second, but didn't bother to let her eyes behold her any longer.

Alyna, fingering her necklace, nodded toward Rose. Even without the Phantom, she didn't think she would have the greatest of nights. Trust your parents to ruin it all, she thought to herself.

Chante peered into the ballroom, holding her dark mask up to her eyes, picking up the skirts of her absurdly beautiful dress of midnight blue and silver. It was fancier than anything she'd ever worn before, and she felt stiff and strange in it. Music was playing, and everyone seemed to be here. She took a seat against the wall, aware that she was becoming a 'wallflower', and hoping to God that no one noticed her or asked her to dance, and yet, perversely, thinking also exactly the opposite.

Yves, noticing a strange yet enchanting new face enter the room, couldn't resist going up and talking to it. He strode confidently across the floor and bowed when he came upon her. "Bonjour mademoiselle. Je m'appelle Yves," he said with a smile. (hello young lady, my name is Yves. )

Rose watched Yves go, not really caring and looked at the crowd around her, all silent but all seemingly wanting to say something. She looked over to a side door, just glancing to see him. She lost her breath for a second as he waved an envelop and then disappeared around the corner. She knew he wanted something else delivered. "Excuse me," Rose said and left without further explaination. She walked across the room and around the corner. There was the brown envelope. She opened it to find music sheets and two slips of paper: One with the names of the leads on it and the other was a note which said. "Keep close watch of Ms. Seliare. Give to Madame Giry."

Chante looked up, surprised. "Bonjour," She murmured, looking down and feeling glad that she had a mask to cover her face. Surely it was bright red by now.
Feeling surprised by her own boldness, probably lent to her by the mask, Chante smiled at him and said, "Have you come only to greet me, or to ask for a dance?"

((Diffy, I'm assuming you meant to say "watch" in the note, and not "what". I don't what to be closely whatted. Edit: Hehe, thanks. ;D)) Alyna saw Rose go, but decided not to interfere any more tonight. She was sure the Phantom would notice if she spied again. Instead, she turned and watched Yves and the new girl. An older women stepped in front of her and pulled on a strand of Alyna's hair. "Enjoying yourself?" she asked in a deep voice. "You've made the highlight of my night with your appearance, Mother," answered Alyna, who turned and walked away. --------- La Carlotta rubbed her eyes. She stood up and heard something crack under her. Not bothering to look down, she walked drowsily toward the refreshment table to get another drink. However, Jeanne had just picked up the last one. "Urgh!" Carlotta slurred. "That's mine!" She tried to grab the glass but, her vision blurry, she didn't reach far enough and was left groping mid-air.

Rose rolled her eyes at Carlotta as she stuffed the note back into the envelope and walked to Madame Giry. She had only just begun talking when a voice boomed into the room saying "Enjoying my party?" All feel silent. "Perhaps I shall add to the enjoyment with the announcement of my next production." All looked around to see no one (atleast no one that they were looking for). "Le Soufre Consigne (Brimstone Gates)! And the lead...Ms. Byron, would you please?" he announced as all eyes turned to Rose. Madame Giry pushed her to open the envelope and read the results to the crown. "The Soprano lead will once again be played by Kristine D'Anton as the Maiden. The Soprano minor lead will be played by Solange Fournier as the Fire Spirit. The lead male roles will be filled by Yves D'Aubigne as the Angel and Philippe Chauvet as the demon." Rose let her voice die as all looked around, interested in the names announced and the parts they would play. Rose handed the envelope to Madame Giry and began to try and stealthly make her way out of the room.

((How about ballerinas? Is the Phantom still there?)) Alyna turned to look up at the booming voice, already knowing who to look for. Her heart beat quickly, but she showed no signs of fear. She wondered why he had gone through all of that secrecy to just come out and announce it. She heard a thud behind her and saw her mother lying on the ground, unconcious. She took this moment to get as far away from her ancestry as possible. She moved to the other side of the room, not realizing it was where Madame Giry and Rose were standing. ------ Carlotta, as she knew she was drunk, simply figured it was a voice in her head and it didn't mean anything. She would, of course, be a leading singer again.

Chante gasped when the thunderous voice filled the ballroom. Her hand flew to her breast in probably the most maidenly motion she had ever made, but as the voice faded, the look of fear was replaced by a look of enchantment.
"Amazing," She breathed, looking upward. Then she began to clap for the leads, so enthusiastically that her hands turned pink. "Oh, my first Opera! I'm so excited!" She chirped, and then, on an impulse, took Yves' hand.
"Congratulations!" She cried happily, "Would you like to dance?" Aware only briefly that she was not supposed to be the one to ask.

Rose was glad that, though some were deeply surprised while others thought nothing of it, that no one approached her. She had barely finished the sheet to. Under the lead singers was written a note which read 'Ballerinas - Madame Giry'. She supposed it meant that Madae Giry would be choosing the lead ballerinas...or it had appeared to be simply ballerina. He also made note that Meg would have a lesser role, but somehow important.

"That must have been hard," Alyna tried to make small talk with Rose, though this was hardly the subject to be doing so with.

"Of course I've come to ask you to dance. A lovely maiden like you shouldn't be sitting down!" Yves hel dout his hand, waiting for her reply.
