Alyna stepped into her room, holding her slippers in her hands. Besides for the Phantom's appearance, the masquerade ball had been quite boring. She stowed her shoes under her bed, pulled her dress off, and undid her corset. She sighed gratefully as she began to breathe fully again, and then, afraid that someone might come in while she was undressed, quickly pulled her nightgown on. Of course, as soon as she lay down, Alyna's stomach began to rumble. There had been no dinner that night as people had been expected to eat at the masquerade, which most didn't. She closed her eyes and tried to ignore it.

After the ball, Jeanne decided to go back to her room and sneak some food for her friends. She had noticed Alyna hadn't had much to eat and so she entered her room first.
"Hello?" Jeanne whispered after she gently knocked. "Anyone awake in there? I bring food."

Alyna sat up gratefully. "You're a life saver," she said. "I was about to sneak down the kitchens in my night gown. How was the masquerade?"

"It was fun, a first experience," replied Jeanne. "May I sit down?" she asked, gesturing towards the bed.

"Sure." Alyna scooted over, never having actually gotten under her covers. "What do you think of the Phantom?" she asked suddenly.

"The Phantom? Well, I think he's sick, I think that he should stop trying to control us, but at the same time he is a genius. The music he writes is amazing. The opera's are hits, and are fun to perform." Jeanne paused. "What do you think?"

"I don't know," Alyna replied. "I just hope he never focuses his attention on me. It's not unfamiliar to the opera staff what happens to people who get involved with his affairs..."

Jeanne nodded solemnly. "I am glad that I'm a little ballerina that no one pays attention too, for major roles I mean. Being under his special attentions"

"That's why I'm worried," Alyna explained. "I have a lead this opera, and I think I did something to offend him..."

"Offend him? If you offended him, you would not be in this opera or anyother. I think he only offers the best to the best and who he favors."

"No, I did it today," she explained further. "I... think something will happen tomorrow."

"Oh, you offended him? Where was I?" Jeanne laughed. She thought she knew what Alyna was talking about.

"Dancing, probably," answered Alyna. "Everyone was. The Phantom left a note for R- someone, and I read it before that person could get to it. I know he was watching me when I did it."

"Oh, well, I don't think he will do anything to the lead, and you are the lead, so I don't think there is much to worry about." Jeanne put her hand on Alyna's shoulder for comfort.

"Take a look at Carlotta," Alyna disagreed as her stomach gave another loud rumble.
