"I am just a small ballerina of no importance. I have not been noticed yet. Why would things change now?"

"You've been here longer than I have, and I got a lead, didn't I? And we know who decided that." She leaned back on her bed, a chill running through her. There was still that feeling inside her that something bad would happen.

Chante nodded. "I've practiced at being unnoticed. Perhaps it shall pay off," She said, remembering her years of slinking about in corners and shadows.

"I don't think you should worry. Worrying will cause the one thing you don't want to happen, to happen! So just think happy thoughts and remember, we have to be happy people. Happy people make great operas," said Jeanne with a fake, sugary voice, and an even more fake smile.

Chante chuckled. "Perhaps it's beacuase she's not a *happy person* that she didn't get a part in this Opera," She grinned, making "happy person" sound like the same overly perky voice that Jeanne had used.
"Well, I'm really getting tired," She yawned, proving her point, "so I'd better get to bed. If you guys want to keep talking, go ahead," She assured them, not wanting to cut them short if they weren't finished. She took off her slippers and slippe dthe rest of her dress off, letting it fall to the floor in a heap of silky material. She took a moment to let down her hair and put it into a long plait before slippin ginto bed in her shift, relieved to finally be off her feet and out of her corset.

"Well, I suppose I should be going to sleep now too. Long day of practice tomorrow. Don't want to slip!"

Smiling, Alyna said good night to Jeanne and climbed back into bead. The girls had certainly made her feel better, but she still had that sick, looming feeling inside her.
